How to get dreamy romantic wedding photos?
You know those photos that just have a magic quality to them, that magical feel is down to the light. Lighting can make or break a photo, even the most stunning bride can be left dull or lacklustre if the lighting isn’t right.
So what is good light?
THE GOLDEN HOUR – the hazy, golden, sun flare look
The golden hour occurs twice a day, the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset. During this time the light is at its lowest point in the sky. This produces soft golden light with no harsh shadows, the light is diffused and incredibly flattering. It is a photographers dream to work with as it is soft, warm, directional light and creates long shadows to play with.
How to incorporate the golden hour into your photos?
Most wedding ceremonies take place mid-afternoon, this is usually when the sun is at its harshest. It is obviously important to capture this part of the day, but bear in mind if you would like some extra dreamy images you need to factor in some golden hour time during the early evening. Give your photographer the chance to work with the golden hour light and capture some truly magical shots. This way not only do you have the full day beautifully documented but you also get some wow factor dreamy romantic wedding photos included in the day.
Timing it critical for golden hour photos, there is only a small window to capture this beautiful light. If you would like golden hour photos it is a good idea to discuss this beforehand with your photographer. I have an app which can tell me exactly where and when golden hour will occur so during our pre-consltation we can look at ideal settings and locations at your chosen venue. Also when your photographer says the light is perfect – go with it. Don’t pop to speak to Uncle bob or powder your nose, by the time you return it may be too late, trust your photographer.
