Working as a Gloucester wedding photographer I often get asked:
Why is wedding photography so important?
Did you know the average spend on wedding photography is £1500 in the UK and nearer £1800 in the USA.
So what can effect the price of your wedding photography?
- Coverage: Less time means less photos, so if you are looking to reduce the amount you spend on wedding photography why not decide on which parts of the day are most important to you and what exactly you want photographed. Many photographers offer different packages or bespoke packages to meet your needs. For example I offer three main collections (Hannah Buckland Wedding Collections) but I am also happy to work together to produce a package to incorporate all your needs throughout your special day. Before deciding this, think about the day you are planning, think about the story you want to be told via photos. Do you want photos of you and your bridesmaids getting ready, what about the groom? Do you want photos of the cake cutting, or the first dance? Don’t only hire your photographer for a few hours just to save money, think about the whole day and the photos you really want.
- Presentation: Once the photos have been edited, how do you want to receive them? If you want your photographer to produce a beautiful album for you to display and tell your wedding day story then this would be an additional cost compared to just getting all your photos on a USB. I offer a Gold package where all images are given to you via a USB but I also offer a platinum package which includes a beautifully crafted 20 page (4- spread) fine art wedding album. Some photographers including myself will upload your photos online to a password protected area for you and your guests to see. More food for thought!
- Engagement shoots: This is an option, quite a few photographers, including myself, will include a free engagement shoot if you book them to cover your whole day. This works really well to help you to relax around the camera and to also get to know your photographer and for your photographer to get to know you. As well as a bit of fun you also get some lovely shots of you and your partner perfect for wedding invites or your save the date cards.
So what should you consider when booking a wedding photographer?
When you have decided your budget and the amount of coverage you would like, it is time to find a photographer. Decide on a style and have a look on social media such as Facebook or Instagram, web searches and Pinterest. Most photographers are happy to travel so if you find a photographer you like but they are in a different area why not send them an email and ask for a quote. Is is a good idea to meet with your photographer, have a chat and make sure you feel comfortable around them – they will be sharing such an important day with you so if they feel like an old friend thats a good sign! Make sure you ask any questions and get answers that you are happy with.
So why is wedding photography so important – you only get one chance. Don’t regret not hiring an professional, you will want to treasure your wedding images for the rest of your lives and relive the day and your beautiful story.
