What is an engagement shoot?
With valentines day just around the corner – the classic time for many engagements to take place. I thought I would write a blog post on what is an engagement shoot is and why are they an important part of your wedding photography journey.
Not many people have been involved in a professional photoshoot before their wedding day. They won’t have spent a prolonged time in front of the camera. This often causes many couples to feel slightly anxious about the experience – please don’t! The best way to explain an engagement shoot is as an experience for you to meet your photographer and learn to relax in front of the camera. The session will give you both confidence in having your photos taken and will give me the chance to get to know you better. Thus will help us to build up a strong relationship so everyone will comfortable and relaxed together.
Before the engagement session we will discuss a suitable location. Usually somewhere which has meaning to you, somewhere you both love or just somewhere which is a great location for photos. I am happy work with your chosen location, be it your local woodland, diary farm or village green. Working as a Gloucester wedding photographer, I have a wealth of knowledge of stunning locations around Gloucestershire and the surrounding counties. I am happy to help find a suitable location. I know many beautiful and secluded places where we won’t be interrupted by lots of other visitors walking past and having a look a what is going on!
We will discuss clothing options and colours. This which can really help to add an extra touch to the images. The time of day for the photoshoot is also an important factor. The golden hour is always best for the dreamy romantic light. The photoshoot will last approximately 1 hour and we will work on gaining relaxed, fun and a few romantic shots. My aim is for you to really enjoy the experience. I will ask you to stand together in certain positions so that the light will be most flattering. I will not be asking you to stand in prolonged awkward poses. I want you to interact together naturally, hold hands, laugh, joke, hug and enjoy the odd sneaky kiss!
I really want your images to reflect you as a couple, your personalities and what is important to you. I am happy for you to include your children, dogs, horses or any other pet or hobby. If you would like your session to have a theme to it I am always happy to try something a bit different. You will receive all of the high resolution edited images. Many couples use these images on their invites, order of services or signing frames. Many will just display the images as beautiful wall art at home – the choice is yours!
